Happy 4th Of July Everyone!
My husband and I will be watching our local fireworks tonight from our backyard…nice living so close to the park. We just spent 4 days camping with our daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren.
We took our pop up camper and stayed at the Bashore KOA in Sanducky, Ohio, which was just a few miles from Cedar Point Amusement Park.
The weather was NOT on our side.
On Friday, June 29th, my husband and I decided to leave earlier so we could have the tent set up before the others arrived later. On the way we got caught in a severe thunderstorm. I have never driven in such a fierce storm like this one. The wind was so strong that it caused four semi trucks to overturn on the southbound lanes (luckily we were going north). Thankfully, when we finally arrived at the camp site the storm was over and the sun was shining. When my daughter and her family arrived we finished setting up camp.
Saturday, we spent the day at the KOA, swimming and letting the boys play on the playground, and relaxing.
On Sunday, after we arrived back from our boat trip to Put-In-Bay Island, another severe thunderstorm hit. The tornado sirens went off TWICE and both times we grabbed the kids and went to a nearby shower building to wait out the storm. Luckily no tornados touched down, but there were tree limbs down, tents blown over and awnings damaged…ours was one of them.
Here’s our awning after the storm. We were thankful that this was the only thing damaged and that we were all OK. The kids were great throughout the whole ordeal.
Monday, we went spent the day at Cedar Point. It was soooo hot! Again, the kids were great and everyone had a good time. My husband got to go on several rides he had never been on before. As for me, I’m not one for amusement rides, so I took the boys on some rides and helped watch the kids.
Kylan rode this ride at least 3 times…he loved pressing the horn throughout the whole ride.
The Bashore KOA, http://www.mhdcorp.com/ ,was really nice. There was a nice playground area, a swimming pool and small grocery store. Every day there were planned activities and food specials at their snack shack. It’s definitely a family oriented campsite.
Caden and Kylan had lots of fun on the Jump Pillow…a hugh inflatable pillow.
Kinzley was extremely good the whole trip…she just hung out.
My husband did most of the cooking. The night of the bad storm, he cooked burgers (my husband’s…they’re the best!) and deep fried banana peppers. I’ll post the recipe later…you just gotta try these! He also grilled chicken breasts and Italian brats and even cooked breakfast. We ate really good, thanks to Lou.
Tuesday morning, my husband and I were packing up to leave (my daughter and her family were staying until Friday) and it began to rain…again! We made it home safe and sound and just chilled out the rest of the day. It was nice to be home.
