My New Fall Paper Cone Wreath

19 Oct

2017 Fall paper wreath

I just finished this new Fall paper wreath.  I LOVE the way it turned out.  I made my first wreath for Christmas several years ago along with these paper cone wreaths I made.

Katie and Daves Last Name Initial Wreath

I made this last name initial wreath for my daughter and son-in-law’s family room…sorry about the background, I took it after taping it to a makeshift board for wrapping.

KTs wreath and LR pic

Here’s a picture of their family room that I used to select the color and patterns for the wreath.

Sylvias wreath

This is my favorite wreath.  I made it for my great niece, Sylvie (Sylvia).  I just love the bright colors, patterns and the cute little flower above her name.

Sylvias wreath and bedroom pic

Here’s the picture of her bedroom that she shares with her sister, Mykah (pictured) that I used to pick the colors for the wreath.  Don’t you just love the tent bed? Their grandmother made it…lucky girls!

Ambers wreath

I didn’t make this one, my daughter Chrystal did for her step-sister and husband. It’s pictured hanging on their door. I like the natural elements she used for the center, which definitely represents her step-sister and husband’s lifestyle.

These wreaths aren’t hard at all to make even though they look like it.

Mitchell Zoo Animals and Zoo Keeper Halloween

26 Oct

Zoo animal and zoo keeper Halloween Costumes

Well, here’s the finished Halloween Costumes that go with the animal trick or treat buckets I made. How awesome are they! My daughter, Katie (the Zoo Keeper), made the elephant, tiger and Zebra masks from patterns she bought from Wintercroft.com.  You need to check them out!

Their decorated campsite won 1st place at the Dayton KOA and Richmond campsites they stayed at!

elephant and tiger costumes

Her husband, Dave’s Elephant costume was a BIG hit and even won 1st Place during their Richmond Halloween event! At the Dayton KOA, little kids ran up to him and hugged him…oh, it was so sweet!

tiger costume and crocodile basket

Here’s my grandson, Kylan’s Tiger Costume. He loved it and never took off the mask!

In fact, he would hide behind a tree at their campsite and peek around it when the hayride drove past. That may have helped them win 1st Place.

pink pumpkin pigs

And don’t you just LOVE these pink pumpkin pigs! I just think they’re sooo cute! Katie worked really hard making all the masks and campsite decorations. Good job Honey!

Cheetah Halloween Costume

Here’s my granddaughter, Kinzley’s Cheetah costume. Isn’t she just a cutie! You should have seen her dancing at the Monster Bash. She could have danced all night, LOL!

Zebra and Zoo Keeper Halloween Costumes

Here’s my grandson’s, Caden’s Zebra costume along with his mom, the Zoo Keeper and dog Rocket, the Lion. Katie used a boa for Caden’s mane, which gently flowed behind him when he walked. Rocket got lots of compliments too and he never tried taking his costume off the whole time we were out walking.

Here’s the three grand kids…with Kinzley showing some “attitude”, hahaha!

My husband and I had so much fun walking around the campground with them, looking at all the great costumes and campsite decorations.

Another successful Halloween!

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

2016-halloween-stuffed-animals

This year my job was to make the grandkids Halloween baskets to go with their Zoo Animal theme.  Their mom, Katie, is making all the Halloween costumes…boy is she doing an awesome job!  I can’t wait to show them to you.

This Rhino trick or treat basket is for Caden.  He’s the first one I made and I was very happy with the results.  I kinda just winged it.  The head is a template I found online and increased the size.

crocodile-halloween-basket

This Crocodile trick or treat basket is for Kylan.  He too is made from felt with rick rack teeth and scales down his tail.  He is made from a sewing pattern I downloaded and adjusted for the basket.

flamingo-halloween-basket

Lastly, this Flamingo trick or treat basket is for Kinzley.  It’s perfect because she just LOVES pink and I found out that her Halloween costume has no pink at all!  Like the other baskets, this one is made from felt.  I made all pattern pieces.

I also made the Giraffe, Hippo and Moose heads (shown above) to decorate their camper/campsite.  I had the felt and just couldn’t help myself!

Hope you all have a very Happy Halloween!

DIY Microwave Heat Pack

28 Nov

HEAT PACK photo

If you’re looking for an easy sewing project for holiday or any gift giving occasion, this Microwave HEAT PACK instructions and labels is the perfect solution.

It’s made with cotton and flannel fabric and filled with rice which can withstand repeated heating in the microwave.  There’s sewn in ties to keep the Pack nicely folded for easy storage, and labels that can be printed on card stock and tied onto the Pack or printed on iron on transfer paper and ironed on (as pictured).

It’s a great way to use up your scrap fabric.  You could also make a larger one and use it as a heated lap cover for the cold winter months.  This would be perfect for older seniors.

I have a rice pack I made over 10 years ago!  I store mine in the freezer.  My husband uses it to cool down in the summer, and we microwave it when we need it heated.

Camping Shower Totes and Toiletry Lanyards

7 Jul

Shower tote and toiletry lanyard with text

My latest sewing project (and Craftsy Pattern) was making shower totes and shower lanyards for my daughter and her family for when they go camping.  For the totes, she wanted it large enough to hold a bath towel, flip flops and a change of clothes.  For the lanyard, she found this idea from thepopupprincess.

Toiletry Lanyard pic

We both loved the idea, but wanted to be able to add more items like a razor, tooth paste and tooth brush, so I designed these clip on mesh bags.  Here’s how they look hanging from the campsite shower.

Katie, the three grandkids and I went fabric shopping and here’s how everyone’s tote bag and lanyard turned out…the kids picked out their own fabric (in their favorite color) and couldn’t wait for me to make them.

Cadens Ninja Turtle Tote and Lanyard

Here’s Caden’s Ninja Turtle Shower Tote bag and lanyard. We found the clip on bottles at Joanns for $1.00 which had hand gel in them that she replaced with her own shampoo, bath gel and cream rinse.  I have to say I liked Caden’s the best…love the vibrant green!

Here’s Kylan’s Super Hero Shower Tote bag and lanyard.

Kinzleys Pink Princess Tote and Lanyard

Here’s Kinzley’s Pink Princess…had to be pink…Shower Tote bag and lanyard.

Daves Blue Tote and Lanyard

Lastly, here’s Dave’s Shower Tote bag and lanyard.

Totes Hanging in camper

Here they all are neatly hanging in their pop up camper, ready to go!  The lanyards are kept in the inside zipper pocket.

Family Off To The Showers

Here’s the Mitchell family at Cedar Point KOA campsite heading for the showers with their new tote bags and shower lanyards.   Katie said they worked out great, having everyone’s shower stuff in one place.

I have to say I really enjoyed sewing these!  They were really easy and each one turned out so nice.  Katie (and the kids) did a great job picking out the fabrics.

Homemade Gifts For Mom

14 May

Natural room scents

I hope all you Mothers had a wonderful Mother’s Day.  Rather than giving my Mom a hanging plant this year, I decided to make her a few things.

Natural Room (Simmering) Scents

I saw these several months ago on The Yummy Life and wanted to give them a try but never got around to it. Then the other day I thought about them when I saw the fruit on my table and decided I’d make them for my Mom for Mother’s Day. They were really easy and fun to make, and I just love how colorful the fresh ingredients look in the jars.

Here’s the scents, from left to right:

Pine twigs, whole bay leaves and whole nutmeg, pine needle essential oil

Sliced oranges, fresh ginger slices and almond extract

Sliced limes, fresh thyme sprigs, peppermint oil and vanilla bean pieces

Sliced Oranges, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and allspice

Sliced Lemons, fresh rosemary sprigs and vanilla bean pieces

To use, you simply pour the contents in a pan and simmer on the stove, or heat it in the microwave and add it to a crock pot or fondue pot.

simmering scent in fondue pot

Here’s the Lime, thyme, peppermint and vanilla one I made myself simmering in my fondue pot. Mmm, I can really smell the mint and vanilla! For my mom, I had a mini Rival crock pot I gave her because the water doesn’t evaporate as fast as it does simmering.

Tea and water bottle cozy

Tea and Water Bottle Cozy

In addition to the natural room scents, I gave her some “sleepytime” tea, because she says she has a hard time sleeping, and this quilted cozy I made for her water bottles. During my last visit she pointed out the napkin she wraps around her cold water bottle to absorb the moisture when it sweats…lol!
