New Sewing Patterns For The College Student

6 Jun
College Dorm Laundry Bag Digital Sewing Pattern

My niece’s daughter, Hannah, just graduated high school and is going to college this fall. Boy, does time fly!

Wanting to sew her something, I came up with this Laundry Bag with a front pocket for holding laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets. Her college colors are red, white and black, so this red and white polka dot and black fabric was perfect!

To make it strong and easy to carry, I added grommets for the drawstring closure and 1 1/2″ wide webbing handle with a Dring for easy hanging. The finished bag measures 29″ X 12 3/4″ and holds A LOT…I stuffed it with a king size comforter for the photos, LOL!

I’m sure she’ll get lots of use from this!

You can purchase the sewing pattern HERE.

Closet Hanger Safe

You gotta be careful these days, so I thought I’d make Hannah this Closet Hanger Safe for her to keep her money, jewelry and other important items out of sight. It’s a quick and easy sew and uses scrap fabric or fat quarters.

This Clothes Hanger Safe has two zippered pockets, measures 16″ X 9″ open and has a Velcro closure to keep it secure on the hanger.

There’s also an optional ribbon/cording that’s attached to the back so it can fit all size hangers.

I made myself one, of course, but don’t tell my husband… don’t want him snooping around my closet, hahaha!

Last of the grocery bag Christmas gifts!

18 Dec

Well, I just finished sewing the last grocery bag for Christmas! I had so much fun sewing them in the fabric each person had picked out…except for

My husband’s Cleveland Browns tailgate bag!

I added a pocket on each end, and filled them with cooking and eating utensils,  cutting board, knife, wipes and foil sheets.

This is for my son,

These are for my granddaughters mom and my sister.

My sewing is FINALLY done!

Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!

My Reusable Grocery Bag Set Sewing Pattern

27 Nov

I just finished sewing and posting these TWO reusable grocery bag patterns I made for my daughter for Christmas.  She and her family won’t be able to make it home for Christmas so I needed to get them done and shipped…along with a grocery gift card to help her fill them up with :)

The larger grocery bag measures 20” X 14 1/2” X 10”, and can easily hold 5 -6 bags worth of groceries, which cuts down on the number of trips into the house.

The smaller grocery bag measures 18” X 13” X 8” and is constructed with a thermal lining to keep all your cold and frozen foods cold!

Both reusable grocery bags pictured were constructed from just 1 yard solid and 1 yard print waterproof canvas from FWDfabrics.com (the BEST waterproof canvas).

The easy to follow step by step photo instructions makes these bags a quick sew. Perfect for gift giving!  You can purchase the pattern at my Etsy Shop.

My New Favorite Waterproof Canvas Fabric!

17 Sep

Fabric Wholesale Direct (FWD) is my new source for waterproof canvas fabric. Previously, I had used and recommended Pro-Tuff waterproof canvas I found at Walmart. The problem with Pro-Tuff is that it only comes in black, blue, grey and green, and it’s getting hard to find.

I found FWD online and noticed that they carried several colors, which was great! The description said it has a waterproof PVC backing, mold and UV resistant qualities, is extremely flexible and resists creasing, and is 60” – 62” wide. I was really interested in the flexible, crease resistant qualities because I found the Pro-Tuff canvas backing to be a bit stiff and showed a lot of creases. In addition, their shipping is a flat $6.99 (free with $75+ order), which is great considering the weight of the fabric.

I decided to give it a try and ordered some black. Boy was I glad I did! The fabric WAS nice and flexible and didn’t crease and was very easy to cut and sew.

Since finding this waterproof canvas fabric, I’ve made the following:

My Laundry Hamper with Drawstring Laundry Bag that can also be used as a storage hamper. You can purchase this sewing pattern for $4.50 by emailing me.

This lined Ohio State Travel Bag and Dopp Toiletry Bag for my husband and…

These unlined overnight bags for the Grandkids.

FWD also has PRINTED waterproof canvas fabric for just $7.99 a yard! I think I’m going to make

another one of my Shopping Cart Grocery Bags from this print…I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

There are so many items you can make using this waterproof canvas! If you need some ideas, here’s some of my sewing patterns that would work, and they’d make great holiday gifts too!  First Aid Bag (with Free Iron On Labels)Expandable Travel Trash Bag $3.50 at my Etsy Shop:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/pegsgottado/The Little LITTER Bag $2.50

My New Fall Paper Cone Wreath

19 Oct

2017 Fall paper wreath

I just finished this new Fall paper wreath.  I LOVE the way it turned out.  I made my first wreath for Christmas several years ago along with these paper cone wreaths I made.

Katie and Daves Last Name Initial Wreath

I made this last name initial wreath for my daughter and son-in-law’s family room…sorry about the background, I took it after taping it to a makeshift board for wrapping.

KTs wreath and LR pic

Here’s a picture of their family room that I used to select the color and patterns for the wreath.

Sylvias wreath

This is my favorite wreath.  I made it for my great niece, Sylvie (Sylvia).  I just love the bright colors, patterns and the cute little flower above her name.

Sylvias wreath and bedroom pic

Here’s the picture of her bedroom that she shares with her sister, Mykah (pictured) that I used to pick the colors for the wreath.  Don’t you just love the tent bed? Their grandmother made it…lucky girls!

Ambers wreath

I didn’t make this one, my daughter Chrystal did for her step-sister and husband. It’s pictured hanging on their door. I like the natural elements she used for the center, which definitely represents her step-sister and husband’s lifestyle.

These wreaths aren’t hard at all to make even though they look like it.
